Frequently asked Questions

  • Residents can expect to work an average of 15 hours per week (typically Monday-Friday). The residency includes built-in vacation days around holidays, as well as opportunities for development that may cause a resident’s weekly hours to fluctuate above or below this average. However, in aggregate, a resident’s time commitment will be close to this average.

  • The minimum funds required for this position are $5,000. YCI is committing $2,500 to each resident’s fundraising account. Residents are responsible for raising the remaining $2,500 but can raise up to an additional $7,500, bringing the total possible amount to $10,000.

  • Residents are paid from their fundraising accounts each month in equal disbursements. For example, if a resident raises the minimum required amount, they will receive $500 per month during the residency (before taxes).

  • All the work that YCI does is made possible by the support of individuals, churches and organizations who believe in its mission. When a resident is responsible for a portion of their salary through fundraising, it not only frees up YCI funds to identify, train, resource and commission the next generation of church leaders, but it also allows the resident to experience the faith-building practice of trusting the Lord for His provision. Finally, as a resident completes their residency, they have a built-in network of people who are committed to supporting their future ministry endeavors through prayer and financial support.

  • There are regular check-ins throughout the fundraising season. If a resident falls short of the minimum amount needed to begin the residency in August, YCI will work with them on a case-by-case basis to determine the best way to accommodate their situation and needs without compromising the quality of the residency experience.

  • The program runs for 10 months, from August 1 to May 31. Scheduled work holidays include Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Christmas Eve through New Year's Day, Good Friday and Memorial Day.

  • YCI will provide initial training for residents, assist them in developing their fundraising strategy and offer regular coaching sessions before the residency begins. Additionally, YCI provides an easy way for residents to direct donors to their fundraising accounts, streamlining the process.

  • Residents will participate in weekly training sessions designed to equip them for ministry leadership. While specific topics may vary based on the strengths and needs of each cohort, core training will always include how to plan and lead ministry gatherings, evaluate ministry effectiveness and team dynamics and manage time efficiently.

  • To participate in the residency, residents must have a personal relationship with Christ, a passion for ministry and a desire to grow. Additionally, they need reliable transportation and availability in the mornings to meet the program’s scheduling needs.
